Craig Gillespie, known for his work on films like 'I, Tonya' and 'Cruella', is in talks to direct the Supergirl film. This would mark Gillespie's first foray into the superhero genre. Meanwhile, Edgar Wright, known for helming films including 'Last Night in Soho' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World', is in talks to direct the Barbarella film starring Sydney Sweeney.
The Supergirl film, originally announced as 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow', may have undergone a title change. The production has already cast Milly Alcock as the titular young hero, and Ana Nogueira is working on the script. The film will take a gritty and tough approach to the character's story, drawing inspiration from the comic book series 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' by Tom King.
On the other hand, Sydney Sweeney is set to star in Sony's new take on the character Barbarella, and Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the film. The project is still in early development and is planned as a new take on the character that originated in a French comic series from Jean-Claude Forest. Barbarella was portrayed by Jane Fonda in a 1968 movie version. Jane Goldman and Honey Ross are in talks to write the script.
Both films are still in early development, and no release dates have been announced yet.
DC Studios Co-Head James Gunn has recently addressed rumors about the casting for the upcoming Batman film. Gunn denies the rumors, stating that casting has not yet begun. He also clarifies earlier comments about the age difference between Batman and Superman. Gunn confirms that the script for Matt Reeves' Batman film is being worked on and will be ready when Reeves thinks it's ready.
