Mapfre, a multinational insurance company, reported a 3.6% decrease in net income for the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period last year. The decline in profit was primarily attributed to a negative impact of 75 million euros due to the impairment of goodwill in its insurance operations in the United States. Excluding this effect, the net result showed an increase of 11.7% compared to the first nine months of 2022. Latin America contributed the most to the company's income, driven by its operations in Brazil. However, the rest of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa experienced increased losses, while the United States observed losses compared to a profit in the previous year. Mapfre's investment portfolio increased by 2.3%, and the board of directors decided to distribute an interim dividend of 0.06 euros per share.[2d13eada]
