A Vietnam-based solar technology company, Boviet Solar Technology, has selected Greenville, in Pitt County, North Carolina, as the location for its first manufacturing facility in the United States. This facility will be the company's second globally and will focus on manufacturing PV modules and solar cells. The project aims to expand Boviet Solar's manufacturing capacity and distribution footprint in the US. The first phase of the project will involve renovating an existing building to produce solar panels, while the second phase will include the construction of a 500,000- to 600,000-square-foot factory on 34 acres to manufacture PV cells. The company plans to invest over $294 million in the project and create 908 jobs. Boviet Solar considered Phoenix and Atlanta as potential sites but ultimately chose Greenville due to its skilled workforce, affordable communities, and quality of life. The company will receive fee and upfront cost waivers from Greenville Utilities, and Pitt County will provide an economic development grant and performance-based job creation grant. Boviet Solar Technology underwent a federal vetting process from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. The company also plans to consider environmental, social, and governance factors in its production process.
