A local gun activist and founder of the Bullhorn Crew, Shawntray Grant, was shot and killed in Savannah, Georgia on June 15, 2018. Grant had won upwards of $12,000 at a casino boat the night before his murder, but the money was not recovered at the crime scene. Investigators discovered that Grant legally acquired a firearm and carried it for self-protection during his advocacy work against gun violence. However, his gun was missing from the crime scene, leading investigators to believe it was taken in the robbery. The autopsy revealed that Grant was ambushed and shot eight times, with five bullets hitting him in the back. [619d61d5]
Osha Dunham, a repeat offender, was identified as a suspect in the murder after a gun matching Grant's missing gun was found in his possession. Dunham and Nelaunte Grant, who had contact with Dunham before the murder, were indicted and found guilty of Shawntray Grant's murder. Dunham received a life sentence without parole, while Nelaunte Grant received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years. [619d61d5]
