In a move to expand its green fleet, Taiwanese container shipping company Evergreen Marine has placed an order for six 2,400 TEU methanol dual-fuel containerships in China. The vessels, with a total transaction price of $312-348 million, will be built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited [526f5344]. This order follows Evergreen's previous order of 24 methanol dual-fuel 16,000 TEU boxships last year. Additionally, Evergreen Marine has acquired 50,000 new containers for approximately $162 million [526f5344].
In early 2024, Evergreen Marine signed a memorandum of cooperation with Shanghai International Port Group for green methanol fuel supply. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with X-Press Feeders to place its containers on X-Press Feeders' new dual-fuel green methanol vessels [526f5344]. Evergreen is actively exploring other green fuels and has collaborated with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners for hydrogen-based marine fuels [526f5344].
This investment in methanol dual-fuel boxships is part of Evergreen Marine's commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact. By utilizing methanol as a fuel, the company aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a more sustainable shipping industry [526f5344].
