In a series of inspiring naturalization ceremonies, new U.S. citizens have been welcomed into the fold across various iconic locations. On October 21, 2024, nine individuals from Armenia, China, France, Germany, Lebanon, Mexico, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Venezuela were sworn in at the historic Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. This ceremony, the first of its kind at this location, was conducted by USCIS Deputy District Director Robert Sanders. Floriane Turcat, a French filmmaker, expressed her gratitude for the moment, noting the significance of the Hollywood Sign in the background. Nithya Raman, the only naturalized citizen on the L.A. City Council, emphasized the importance of naturalized citizens, who represent 10% of eligible voters. Other new citizens shared their emotional journeys, with Arman Grigoryan from Armenia and Chia Hsin Tsai from Taiwan reflecting on their paths to citizenship. [9cde9390]
Earlier in the month, Harvard Business School celebrated a similar event, where 147 individuals from 48 different countries became new U.S. citizens. The ceremony featured speeches from HBS Dean Srikant M. Datar and Massachusetts District Judge Denise J. Casper. After taking the oath, the new citizens watched a welcome message from President Joe Biden, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and celebrated their new status with family and friends. Dean Datar highlighted the significant contributions immigrants make to American society, while one naturalized citizen expressed aspirations of making a meaningful impact after attending Harvard. This event underscored the positive influence immigrants have on the economy and communities, showcasing the strength of diversity and unity in the nation. [6d0bba1f]
