Jeffrey P Bomanak, leader of the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (Free Papua Organisation), has accused the United Nations of failing to uphold its decolonisation responsibilities in West Papua. Bomanak claims that the UN allowed Indonesia to integrate the Melanesian Pacific region, leading to what he calls an 'egregious act of inhumanity' and the beginning of genocide. In an open letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Bomanak criticizes the UN for not confronting the 'relentless barbarity' of the Indonesian invasion force and for supporting the fraudulent 1969 gun-barrel 'Act of No Choice'. The letter follows previous criticism of Australia and the United States for their role in preventing Papuan independence.
