United Airlines has launched its first non-stop flight between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (IAH) and Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, Guyana (GEO). The route was announced in November last year and the airline started the service on April 1. The flights will operate four times a week on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Guyana's Minister of Tourism expects the new flight to increase visitor arrivals and have a positive impact on the local economy. Other airlines such as American Airlines, JetBlue, Caribbean Airlines, and Surinam Airways also offer flights between the US and Georgetown. United Airlines has a larger expansion plan out of Houston, with over 850 daily flights across more than 150 routes scheduled from February to June 2024. The airline has faced delays in fleet development due to Boeing's production delays, leading to frustration within the airline and its pilots.
