Boston College's Lowell Humanities Series is set to showcase the work of distinguished writers, scholars, and artists this semester. The series will feature a lineup of notable speakers, including Roya Hakakian, who will discuss the challenges faced by women in Israel and Iran. Fr. James Alison will deliver the Annual Candlemas Lecture, focusing on subverting polarization in contemporary cultures. Joy Harjo, the 23rd United States Poet Laureate, will speak about indigenous poetry and native literature. Daniel Alarcón will explore stories from Latin America, while Ada Ferrer will discuss the history of Cuba. Yiyun Li will present her fiction, and Bill Rauch will talk about his lifetime of building bridges. All events will be free and open to the public, taking place at 7 p.m. in Gasson Hall Room 100. The series is cosponsored by various departments and programs at Boston College.
Ballet X, Philadelphia’s contemporary ballet company, presents its Spring Series from March 6-10, at the Wilma Theater. The program features the world premiere of 'Two People in Love Never Shake Hands' by Nicola Wills, Ballet X’s 2024 Choreographic Fellow. Jodie Gates, an artistic director, presents her work 'Beautiful Once,' and Jennifer Archibald returns to Ballet X with a world premiere titled 'Maslow’s Peak,' inspired by 'Lord of the Flies.'
