Trinity College Dublin celebrated Trinity Monday by announcing a new cohort of Scholars and Fellows. The announcement included 73 new Scholars, 43 new Fellows, three new Professorial Fellows, and four Honorary Fellows across various disciplines. The Provost, Dr. Linda Doyle, read out their names on the steps of the Public Theatre in Front Square at 10 am. The Scholars were selected based on the results of an examination in their respective subject areas. The disciplines represented by the Scholars include Law, Medicine, Computer Science, Nursing, and English Studies. The four Honorary Fellows announced were Professor Peter Gallagher, Deborah Kelleher, Prof. Dermot Kelleher, and Elizabeth Oldham. Each Scholar is entitled to benefits, including free accommodation on campus [3fff0a89].
In other news, two students from Selskar College in Wexford, Ellie Furlong and Aoife Davis, were crowned the Water Ambassador Regional winners at the annual An Taisce Green Schools Water Awards in Dublin. The awards were presented by Geoffrey Bourke of Uisce Éireann and Cathy Baxter of An Taisce. The students were praised for their creativity and imagination in working together to protect water resources and inspire their communities to use less water. The event marked the 11th year of Uisce Éireann's sponsorship of An Taisce's Green Schools program, which has engaged with 519 schools and over 142,000 students and 12,800 teachers across Ireland [68da88f0].
Meanwhile, the Naughton Foundation Scholarship scheme is reminding students from Kilkenny to apply for scholarships worth €20,000. The closing date for receipt of application forms is Friday, June 28 at midnight. Each scholarship is valued at €20,000, with €5,000 awarded for each year of the student's third-level course. There will be one guaranteed scholarship for each of the participating counties, 36 allocated in total. Students attending secondary schools in Kilkenny and studying physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, mathematics, and applied mathematics are invited to apply.
