Josephine Siao, a prominent Hong Kong actress, has transitioned from a celebrated child star to a passionate activist against child sexual abuse. Born Xiao Liang in Shanghai in 1947, she moved to Hong Kong at the age of two after her father passed away shortly thereafter. Siao began her acting career at just six years old and has since starred in over 100 films, gaining immense popularity in the 1960s with notable roles, including her performance in 'Colourful Youth' (1966). Despite her success, Siao faced personal challenges, including becoming deaf, which ultimately led to her retirement from acting at the age of 50. [026ef81c]
In addition to her film career, Siao pursued higher education, attending Seton Hall University and graduating in 1970. She later earned a master’s degree in child psychology in 1990, which fueled her commitment to advocacy. In 1998, she founded the End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation, dedicating her efforts to raising awareness and combating child abuse. Her contributions to both the arts and social causes have been recognized, earning her an MBE in 1997. Tragically, her husband, Clarence Chang Ching-po, passed away in August 2022, marking another poignant chapter in her life. [026ef81c]
