The Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which celebrate excellence in Toronto's performing arts scene, saw the musical adaptation 'Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812' take home four awards in the musical theatre division. The production, presented by Crow's Theatre and The Musical Stage Company, was honored with awards for outstanding production, outstanding performance by an ensemble, outstanding creative direction, and outstanding achievement in design. The musical, based on a portion of Leo Tolstoy's 'War and Peace', received 10 nominations and is set to be transferred to Mirvish Productions' Royal Alexandria Theatre next summer. In the general theatre division, 'Sizwe Banzi is Dead' won an award for outstanding performance by an individual, while 'Three Sisters', 'Bad Roads', and 'The Master Plan' each received two awards. The opera division was dominated by 'Medea', which won all five awards. Notably, Mirvish Productions did not submit any of its productions for consideration this year after withdrawing from the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts, which administers the awards.
