In a recent development, Jayesh Gupta, a prominent social activist from Jammu, has called on the government to take proactive steps towards setting up manufacturing units for lithium batteries in Jammu and Kashmir. Gupta highlighted the significance of the recent lithium discovery in Reasi, describing it as a breakthrough. He emphasized that establishing such manufacturing units could create employment opportunities for the region's unemployed youth and bring other benefits to the area. Gupta suggested that with the substantial lithium deposits found in Jammu and Kashmir, the central government has the opportunity to make the Union Territory a hub for lithium battery manufacturing, given that lithium batteries are used in various electronic devices. He further proposed that similar investments made in Tamil Nadu for semiconductor manufacturing should be made in Jammu and Kashmir for the production of lithium-ion batteries [0b5eaef4].
This call for the establishment of lithium battery manufacturing units in Jammu and Kashmir aligns with the growing demand for lithium and the need to secure a sustainable supply chain. The recent lithium discovery in Reasi has highlighted the potential of the region as a significant source of lithium, making it an ideal location for such manufacturing units. By leveraging this opportunity, Jammu and Kashmir could not only contribute to meeting the increasing demand for lithium batteries but also stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities in the region [0b5eaef4].
