In 1991, the Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine faced significant economic challenges. To address this, a regional discussion called The Greater Seacoast Economic Summit was proposed. The summit brought together business people, activists, and talent from the University of New Hampshire to participate in panel discussions and research projects. The result of this summit was the development of several initiatives and action projects that played a crucial role in the eventual economic recovery of the area. One of the key outcomes was the creation of The Seacoast Compact, a document that outlined 12 principles emphasizing unity and cooperation among the communities. The compact served as a guiding framework for collaborative efforts and helped foster a sense of shared purpose in the region. The article suggests the value of holding a Greater Seacoast Development & Housing Summit in 2024 to address current mutual problems and needs, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation and summitry in addressing long-term challenges.
