Longtime White City resident Peggy Baker celebrated her 100th birthday with family, friends, and the Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham. Peggy Baker has a kaleidoscope of memories from her years in west London, including dancing at a local stage school and working for the BBC at Television Centre in White City. The birthday celebrations took place at White City Community Centre in India Way, just a stone's throw from Peggy's home of seven decades in Batman Close. The 75-strong party was joined by H&F Mayor, Cllr Patricia Quigley. Peggy received national recognition on BBC Radio 2's Trevor Nelson show and a signed card from King Charles III and wife Camilla. Peggy's family has expanded over the years to include seven children, 19 grandchildren, and at least 25 great-grandchildren. Peggy's daughter and son have many happy memories of growing up in White City. Peggy spent her early years living in West Kensington's Berghem Mews and lost her father in a cycling accident when she was four years old. Peggy met her husband John during the Second World War while he was working as a metalworker. They married in 1943 and had a family of nine. Peggy and John worked together at the BBC in the 1980s. Maggie attended Sacred Heart and Redlands HS before graduating from UC Riverside. She married Keith Trost and they had two children, Matthew and Marcia. Maggie was active in outdoor activities, including hiking, river rafting, and participating in cancer walks. She held various jobs throughout her life, including Director of HR and substitute teaching. After retirement, she returned to Redlands and was involved in bible study, volunteering at Redlands Community Hospital, and spending time with her grandchildren.
