AWS has announced the general availability of S3 Express One Zone (EOZ), a high-performance version of its object storage service. EOZ is designed for GPU workloads and leverages the popularity of S3 APIs. It offers faster latency compared to S3 Standard and uses flash storage instead of traditional hard drives. While it sacrifices some resilience, it provides equivalent performance to Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) for most workloads. EOZ has a service level agreement (SLA) of 99.5% availability and 99.999999999% durability. It is aimed at customers who need high-performance storage and can colocate their compute resources. AWS plans to make its storage services more interoperable in the future.
Equinix, a global data center company, has announced plans to build a new data center in Mumbai, India. The facility, named MB4, will have an initial capacity of 350 cabinets, which will later increase to 700 at full build-out. Equinix's MB4 data center will be connected to its existing data centers in Mumbai through its Metro Connect solution, providing efficient connectivity to multiple cloud service providers, network service providers, and other businesses. The availability of MB4 is expected in Q4 2023. The Indian data center industry is experiencing rapid growth, with capacity expected to double by 2024. Equinix currently operates 250 data centers worldwide, with 52 in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to MB4, Equinix is also developing its MB3 data center in Mumbai, which is scheduled to go live in Q2 2024. In its recent earnings report, Equinix announced 12 new data center projects around the world and reported revenues of $2.02 billion, representing an 11% year-on-year increase. This investment by Equinix in Mumbai reflects the company's commitment to serving its customers in India and meeting the growing demand for data center services in the region. With the expansion of its data center footprint, Equinix aims to provide reliable and efficient connectivity to businesses and support the digital transformation efforts of organizations in India.
NetApp, in partnership with Equinix, will offer storage as a service through its Keystone subscription offering, deploying arrays in Equinix colocation centers. The NetApp-Equinix partnership provides a single-tenant environment with compute, network, and storage capabilities to run customer applications. The offering combines NetApp's storage with Equinix Metal's high-performance bare metal servers, enabling fast data access and low latency. Equinix Metal colos have connectivity to major public cloud environments, allowing the addition of NetApp cloud services. NetApp Storage on Equinix Metal is a first-party service offered through Equinix. Equinix has 26 Metal locations among its 236 International Business Exchange (IBX) colo datacenters worldwide.
Seagate Technology has announced the launch of its CORVAULTā¢ 4U106 mass data storage system, which offers a capacity of 2.5PB. The high-performing multi-petabyte block storage system provides higher rack density, extended lifecycles, and lower power consumption per petabyte, resulting in reduced total cost of ownership (TCO). The system utilizes Seagate's hard drives and self-healing technology to create an efficient petabyte storage building block for scale-out data center architecture. The self-healing capabilities of Seagate's Autonomous Drive Regeneration (ADR) and Advanced Distributed Autonomic Protection Technology (ADAPT) help reduce downtime and optimize data center resources. The system has been praised by Alexander Ruebensaal, CEO of ABC Systems AG, for its ability to significantly reduce storage costs for multi-petabyte datasets. The Seagate Exos CORVAULT 4U106 is available in both conventional magnetic recording (CMR)-based and Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR)-based configurations. The new configurations will be available for order in November and will be shipped at the end of December.
Redis, the leading real-time data platform, has acquired Speedb, the world's fastest data storage engine, to enhance real-time data processing and power low-latency user experiences. The acquisition allows Redis to expand beyond DRAM and deliver a holistic offering centered on speed and scale. Redis will serve the full spectrum of performance and cost requirements for enterprise applications where DRAM is not required. The acquisition is the culmination of years of work alongside Speedb, which was integrated as the default storage engine in Redis 7.2. Redis will release the first version of its Speedb-integrated product later this year with the release of Redis 8. Redis is developing Redis Community Edition 7.4, which will include highly-requested features such as hash field expiration and client consolidation.
