The annual Small Town Pride celebration will return to North Brookfield, Massachusetts, after two years in West Brookfield. The Rural Justice Network, which organizes the event, got approval to hold it in North Brookfield last year but faced opposition from the select board, who rescinded the permit for a drag show. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) intervened and the event was allowed to proceed. However, when organizers applied for the same permit this year, they faced the same opposition. The ACLU sued the town and the two selectmen who refused to allow the event with the drag show. Under the settlement agreement, the selectmen no longer have oversight of the Small Town Pride permit. The event will be held on June 29 from noon to 6 p.m. on North Brookfield Town Common. [00861f2c]
