Former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Rohit Arya has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) three months after his retirement. Arya expressed his alignment with the party's ideology and his intention to be in public life without running for elections. He plans to provide the BJP with suggestions for policy-making. Arya served as a judge at the Madhya Pradesh High Court from September 12, 2013, and became a permanent judge on March 26, 2015. He has almost three decades of legal experience in civil, arbitration, administrative, service, labour, and tax laws. During his tenure, Arya presided over several high-profile cases, including denying bail to stand-up comedians Munawar Faruqui and Nalin Yadav, who were accused of hurting religious sentiments and violating Covid-19 protocols. He also granted bail to a man accused of outraging the modesty of a woman on the condition that he present himself to the complainant on the day of Raksha Bandhan and get a rakhi tied on his wrist. The decision was later overturned by the Supreme Court. Arya's decision to join the BJP has attracted attention due to his controversial rulings during his tenure as a judge. [3d510e2f] [5fde091b]
