The Police Chief Search Committee in Amherst, Massachusetts has announced two finalists for the position of Police Chief. The finalists are Todd Ahern, a Lieutenant in the Chelmsford Police Department, and Gabriel Ting, a Captain and Temporary Chief in the Amherst Police Department. Todd Ahern has served in the Chelmsford Police Department for 30 years and currently holds the position of Lieutenant in charge of Community Wellness and Outreach. Gabriel Ting has been with the Amherst Police Department for over 26 years and currently serves as the Temporary Chief and Captain in charge of Police Operations.
The community is invited to a 'meet and greet' session on April 2 at the Bangs Community Center to interact with the candidates. Todd Ahern will be available from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., and Gabriel Ting will be available from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The event will be moderated by Attorney Everald Henry, the chair of the Police Chief Search Committee.
In a separate development, former San Angelo Police officer and Tom Green County Justice of the Peace J.P. McGuire has endorsed Mike Hernandez for San Angelo Police Chief in the May 4, 2024 election. McGuire believes Hernandez has the ability, drive, and attitude to lead the San Angelo Police Department into the future. McGuire has known Hernandez for many years and witnessed his success in every division he has been a part of, particularly in the Narcotics Division where Hernandez demonstrated a strong work ethic and ethical decision-making. McGuire is giving Hernandez his public endorsement and encourages citizens to vote for him on May 4 or during early voting from April 22 to April 30.
The 'meet and greet' session in Amherst will provide an opportunity for the community to engage with the finalists in an informal setting. The event will also be accessible via Zoom and will be recorded for those unable to attend in person.
