In Calgary, the repair process for the water feeder main that ruptured and caused citywide water restrictions is progressing well. Two crucial pipe sections required for the repair have arrived from San Diego, which has allowed the repair timeline to potentially be completed sooner than expected. The cutting and removal of damaged pipe sections have been completed, and crews are now focusing on pipe installation. Most of the materials needed for the repairs are either on-site or in transit. The replacement pipes are currently being sandblasted and coated before delivery. The city plans to conduct an independent incident review of the water repairs. Water restrictions are still in place, and bylaw officers have received 2,386 water misuse calls and issued 621 verbal warnings and 14 violation tickets. The city has opened two stations on the Bow River for non-potable water collection. Calgary residents are encouraged to support local businesses affected by the water main break and ongoing construction. [ab4f91d5]
Meanwhile, in Grande Prairie, 132 Avenue (Highway 670) between 97B Street and 99 Street is set to reopen to one lane of passenger traffic. The road closure was caused by a CN contractor damaging an Aquatera water main on July 9, 2024. CN has hired a contractor to complete the repairs. The truck route remains closed, and trucks entering the city eastbound are asked to divert to Highway 43. Only passenger vehicles are allowed on the open lane, and semi-trucks are diverted around the site. The reopening is weather-dependent. The City of Grande Prairie expresses gratitude to residents and drivers for their patience and cooperation. [4453b96c]
