On September 14, 2024, Massy Gas Products (Guyana) Ltd inaugurated a new Air Separation Plant located in East Bank Demerara. This facility boasts a production capacity of 13 tons per day, producing liquid oxygen with a remarkable purity of 99.9% and nitrogen gas with only 0.15 ppm O2. The plant was manufactured in India by Cosmodyne, a subsidiary of Nikkiso, and is operated entirely by a local Guyanese team [fc1841fd].
The establishment of this plant is a strategic move to support Guyana's burgeoning oil and gas sector, which has been experiencing rapid growth due to recent discoveries. CEO Augustus Harris emphasized the investment's future-oriented nature, highlighting the company's commitment to meeting the rising demand for high-purity gases in the region. In addition to the air separation plant, Massy Gas Products has plans to introduce a 3-ton per day CO2 filling plant by December 2024, which aims to eliminate the need for imports of high-purity gases [fc1841fd].
Chairman Vaughn Martin underscored the company's 56-year commitment to Guyana, reinforcing the importance of local investment in the economy. Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, praised the investment, particularly in light of the high energy costs currently facing the country.
