Mai Lydon nee Gavin passed away peacefully on Saturday, 18th May, in her 93rd year, surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of the staff of Ballinderry Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband Mark, sisters Evelyn, Maud, and Nancy, as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mai is survived by her loving family, including her children Micheál, Francis, Martin, Mary (Glancy), Vera (Scully), Nuala (Heavey), and Antoinette, as well as her 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply mourned by her extended family, neighbors, and friends. Mai's funeral arrangements include a viewing on Tuesday, 21st May, from 6pm to 8pm at the Franciscan College Oratory in Mountbellew, followed by a Requiem Mass on Wednesday, 22nd May, at 12 noon in St. Peter & Paul’s Church, Ballymacward, and burial afterwards to New Cemetery. Samuel M. Nein, 73, of Ogallala, Nebr. and formerly of Boulder, Colo., died on December 21, 2016. Survivors include his wife Karen Nein, daughter Lisa Jeffers, son Samuel Nein, and six grandchildren. He was the devoted husband of Ann, with whom he celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary, and the loving father of Gary, Kirk (Maggie), Melissa (John), and the late Kelly Finley. Glenn was born on September 17, 1944, to COL. Glenn S. Finley, Jr., and Patricia J. Finley. He spent his early years living abroad in Germany as an 'Army brat.' At age 17, he attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and then Bowling Green University, where he studied Physics, German, and Mathematics. He worked in Foreign Intelligence at TACOM, retiring in 2002 as a Technical Writer/Editor after 36 years of service. Glenn was known for his wit, charm, and dry sense of humor. He cared deeply for the special needs population, especially his daughter Kelly. He had a fondness for animals and children, and was fascinated by the otherworldly and ethereal. Glenn was an intellectual and an academic, always reading and writing. He was a writer and poet, and his final poem, 'Crossing the Bar,' was discovered in April. Visitation and Service were private. Gwynne N. Gould, 97, passed away on December 30, 2015, in Gloucester, VA. He was a native of Providence, RI, and had been a resident of Gloucester for the past 40 years. Gould served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and later worked for NASA until his retirement in 1976. He is survived by his children Linda Steffey, Anthony F. Gould, and Betty Gentry, as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. A private interment was held in Grafton Christian Church Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society. Joseph A. Conlon, 93, of Pompano Beach, passed away on September 12, at John Knox Village Health Center. He was a resident of Pompano Beach for over 30 years and was the VP of Marketing at Dayco Rubber in Dayton, OH before retiring. Conlon was born in Los Angeles, CA on February 19, 1913. He enjoyed his retirement years with his wife Dorothy in South Florida, where he continued to play golf well into his 80s. He is survived by his daughter Linda Runkel of Huntley, IL, his sister Laurene Bissell of Newport Beach, CA, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on September 23 at the JKV Auditorium in Pompano Beach.
James (Jim) Roche, a family man from Wexford, passed away on May 8 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his parents Jack Roche and Bridget Stafford, as well as his older brothers Francis and Patrick and younger sister Margaret (Peg). Jim is survived by his wife Mary and children Bridget, John, Michael, Eileen, and Maureen, as well as grandchildren and other relatives. He was born on July 21, 1941, and grew up in St Leonards. Jim worked in construction in London before returning to St Leonards to run the family farm. He loved nature, animals, and working the land. Jim was also an avid GAA supporter and enjoyed driving Heavy Goods Vehicles. He had many good friends and enjoyed taking them and his family on leisurely day trips on his fishing boat. Jim was a kind, gentle, and loving man who will be greatly missed.
