The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has approved the South Deuel Wind Project and a proposal for the Toronto Power Plant. The South Deuel Wind Project is a wind energy facility and a 345 KV transmission facility located in Deuel County, South Dakota. The project, under docket number EL24-023, received approval from the PUC. As part of the approval, the Commission assessed a filing fee not to exceed $510,500 and set an initial deposit of $20,000. The Executive Director has been granted the authority to enter into necessary consulting contracts for the project [19f36d1f].
In addition to the South Deuel Wind Project approval, the PUC also discussed the proposal for the Toronto Power Plant. The proposal, submitted by the Western Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (WMMPA), aims to build a power plant that will generate approximately 145 megawatts of power during periods of high energy demand. The power plant will consist of seven or eight reciprocating internal combustion engines and other associated facilities. The proposed location for the power plant is in the southeast quarter of Section 7, Township 113N, Range 48W in Toronto Township, Deuel County, South Dakota. The PUC meeting addressed the designation of the affected area and the establishment of a local review committee. Participants were able to join the meeting via conference call or listen to it on the PUC's website. The proposal is expected to provide an economic boost to South Dakota [0bfe48cf] [19f36d1f].
