The Rockefeller Foundation announced John W. Rogers Jr. as the new Chair of the Economic Opportunity Coalition's (EOC) Management Committee. Edison International, Exelon, and Southern Company have joined the EOC with new procurement commitments, alongside existing members Xcel Energy, Micron, and Air Products. Companies partnering with the EOC have collectively purchased over $10 billion in products and services from small and historically underutilized businesses. Exelon spends approximately 40% of its procurement dollars with diverse-certified businesses annually. Twelve startups have been selected for the 2024 cohort of the Xylem Partnerships Accelerator, which aims to address water shortages, emerging contaminants, and the impacts of climate change. The startups will bring novel technologies and approaches to the water industry, including advanced pathogen detection, leak detection materials, and artificial intelligence for flood prediction and pipeline inspection. The program has supported 35 companies from 13 countries since its inception in 2022. One success story is EOMAP, a Germany-based software company that uses satellite data to monitor water quality.
