A gas station robbery that took place in Houston, Texas in January has been revealed to be a staged crime as part of a visa scheme. The robbery, which ended with a bystander shooting and killing the robber, was orchestrated by 22-year-old Rasshauud Scott and another man named William Winfrey. The two had previously staged similar robberies dating back to 2023. On January 27, Scott pretended to rob two individuals at the Swift gas station. A bystander, Jesus Vargas, shot and killed Scott. Vargas later admitted to fleeing the scene because he was in violation of his parole by possessing a gun. Scott's fiancée, Sade Beverly, has called for stricter gun laws in response to the incident. One of the victims denied that the crime was staged but admitted to applying for a U-visa. The police uncovered the scheme through Telegram messages exchanged between Scott and Winfrey. [4e2b27c7]
