In other theater news, Lily Tung Crystal has been appointed as the new Artistic Director of East West Players (EWP), one of the nation's longest-running theatre companies of color and the largest producer of Asian American Pacific Islander creative work [1100da36]. Tung Crystal, an accomplished director, actor, and artist, will be joined by Managing Director Eugene J. Hutchins as EWP implements a co-leadership model [1100da36]. Tung Crystal previously served as the artistic director for Theater Mu in Minneapolis-St. Paul and aims to increase representation of Asian American and other marginalized artists on stage and in TV and film, and to tell more Asian American stories [1100da36]. She plans to serve the Asian-American diaspora and work intersectionally with other marginalized groups, as well as integrating film and video with theater at EWP [1100da36]. Tung Crystal will be EWP's fifth artistic director, succeeding Snehal Desai [1100da36].
