The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has announced that 69 Boko Haram terrorists and their families have surrendered to authorities in Cameroon and Niger. The surrender took place between July 1 and July 6, 2024, during combined maritime operations between Cameroonian and Nigerian forces [eda3bdbb] [57ad8d90]. The surrendered groups consist of 56 combatants, 43 women, and children, and an additional 12 family members of the terrorists were rescued [57ad8d90]. The increasing number of surrenders has significantly weakened Boko Haram's operational capability and the morale of the remaining fighters [57ad8d90]. The MNJTF, a coalition of forces from countries in the Lake Chad Basin, has been successful in pressuring insurgents to lay down their arms [57ad8d90]. The surrendered individuals and the rescued family members were handed over to the troops of Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai in Gamboru and Banki for further action [eda3bdbb]. The MNJTF is urging other terrorists to lay down their arms and surrender for lasting peace in the Lake Chad basin region [eda3bdbb] [57ad8d90].
