Protests have broken out in Odisha after the son of the state's Governor, Lalit Kumar Das, was accused of misbehaving with an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) appointed in Puri Raj Bhavan. The ASO, Baikunthanath Pradhan, alleges that Das and his associates physically assaulted him. The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) held a press conference demanding justice for Pradhan. Additionally, youth and student leaders from the Congress party staged a protest in front of the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. The Odisha Secretariat Service Association has submitted a letter of demand to the Chief Minister, and Pradhan has filed a complaint at the Puri Sea Beach police station. The case has also been brought to the attention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) [28de851d].
Governor Raghubar Das has taken action in response to the assault allegations against his son and five others. The cook present during the incident has been fired by the Raj Bhavan, and the two personal security officers involved will face stringent action. Governor Das expressed unhappiness that senior Raj Bhavan officials did not inform him immediately after the incident was reported to them. The complainant and his wife have met with Governor Das and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who assured them that the matter will be looked into [d1cde38a].
The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) commended the Nagaland State Government for filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India challenging the central government’s refusal to sanction the prosecution of Indian Army personnel involved in the Oting massacre of December 2021. The Oting massacre resulted in the tragic loss of 13 innocent lives, including six mine workers and seven villagers. The Central Government's refusal to grant prosecution sanction has been a significant impediment to justice. The NSF praised the state government's decisive action, highlighting its commitment to justice and accountability in response to severe human rights violations [ab4eeb8b].
