Hindmarsh's Marigal Gardens retirement village expansion in Canberra is nearly complete, with 79 new apartments across four buildings. The extension is expected to open in August or September, and there are only six apartments left to sell. Hindmarsh, a family-owned company, also operates retirement villages in Deakin and Lyons. They are set to complete the next 79 units of their Marigal community. The concept of vertical retirement villages is slowly gaining acceptance in Canberra [f941570d].
In other news in the aged care sector, Brookfield has started the sale process for retirement village operator Aveo, and Silverchain Group has acquired KinCare, becoming Australia's third-largest home care provider [f941570d].
Meanwhile, in Sinking Spring, a new senior living community called The Residence at Village Greens is set to open this summer. The community is built on the former Village Greens Golf Course, which was operated by the Robitzer family for over 50 years. Donald S. Robitzer Jr., whose family operated the golf course, appreciates the tribute to his family's legacy. The Residence at Village Greens will include 60 Independent Living, 51 Personal Care, and 20 Memory Care units. The property will feature a putting green and a golf-themed pub, paying homage to its golf course history. The golf course, designed by Robitzer's grandfather, was in operation from 1965 to 2017. The property was sold in 2019 and is being developed by IntegraCare and Weathervane Capital Partners [79818d63].
