Elementary students from Strathcona School in Winnipeg have created a music video called 'The Last Red Dress' as part of a project to raise awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG). The music video was composed by the Grade 5 class and involved collaboration with musicians, video editors, and graphic designers. The project, which took about a year to complete, included research, writing a poem, turning it into a song, conducting interviews, operating a camera, and learning reporting skills. The music video was showcased at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights as part of a series of projects by young people. Over 70 students from various schools participated in the showcase, which aims to highlight Manitoba students in grades 4-12 who are learning about human rights issues and taking action to make a difference. Another student, Ahana Gosh from Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute, also did a project on missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. The showcase provides an opportunity for students to share their work with the public and raise awareness about the issues they see in the world today. [3c97e6f8]
