The 34th annual World of WearableArt™ (WOW) Show in Wellington, New Zealand, will showcase 91 finalist entries in the 2024 WOW Competition. The garments, crafted from diverse materials such as car parts, human hair, digital waste, antique silk, roadwork safety equipment, old mattresses, lamp shades, gutter guard, and New Zealand wool, were selected from entries submitted from around the world. The competition includes three recurring sections - Aotearoa, Avant-garde, and Open - and three unique categories: Crazy Curiosities of the Creature Carnival, Natural World, and Geometric Abstraction. The recently concluded Knowledge of Design Week (KODW) in Hong Kong brought together leaders from various creative industries to discuss the future of design. The event, which took place from June 25-27, featured over 30 sessions of forums, networking events, workshops, and masterclasses. With the theme of 'Inter/Section: Crafting Tomorrow's Design,' KODW aimed to foster the exchange of ideas in an industry where cross-disciplinary collaboration is becoming increasingly important. The Design Guild Mark is a non-profit award program that recognizes excellence in British industrial design. Established in 2008 by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the program highlights innovation of materials, creativity, and sustainability. This year, 16 outstanding submissions across three categories received the Design Guild Mark, with three also receiving the Jonathan Hindle Prize. The winners were chosen based on their commitment to sustainability, reflecting the program's emphasis on eco-friendly design. In other design news, the curated personal collections of architect and interior designer Max Clendinning and theatre set designer Ralph Adron will be sold at the Sworders auction rooms in Stansted Mountfitchet on July 9th.
