According to a new study, North Ayrshire is the area of Scotland where people are most likely to need help to put food on the table. The study found 29 councils where half the people were living in places considered at high risk of food insecurity. Three were in Scotland - North Ayrshire where 65% of people lived in such neighbourhoods, East Ayrshire (59%) and West Dunbartonshire (50%). The foodbank and larder - which is run by the Trussell Trust - helped more than 5,000 people in the North Ayrshire community last year.
The study's findings highlight the ongoing issue of food insecurity in Scotland, particularly in North Ayrshire. This area has the highest percentage of people living in neighborhoods at high risk of food insecurity, with 65% of the population affected. East Ayrshire and West Dunbartonshire also have significant levels of food insecurity, with 59% and 50% of people respectively living in such neighborhoods. The Trussell Trust's foodbank and larder in North Ayrshire provided assistance to over 5,000 individuals in the community in the past year, underscoring the need for support and intervention in addressing this issue [b9d03339].
