A new study conducted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has shed light on migration trends by sea in Haiti. The study, titled 'LÃ’T BÃ’ A: Mapping of migration trends by sea 'On the other side' (April 2021)', is part of the project 'Supporting vulnerable migrants in Haiti through improved protection'. The study aims to establish migration trends and understand the factors that drive migration in the North and North-West departments of Haiti.
The study collected data through interviews with key informants and analyzed the main points of departure, maritime routes, points of arrival, and the difficulties faced by boats during migratory journeys. It is important to note that the results of the study are considered as trends and not factual data.
The findings of the study provide valuable insights into the migration patterns in Haiti. By understanding the factors that drive migration and the challenges faced by migrants during their journeys, policymakers and organizations can develop more effective strategies to support and protect vulnerable migrants in Haiti.
