Federal officials in Yakima have announced a major indictment against 34 alleged criminal gang members. The indictment includes charges of illegal drug sales, money laundering, firearms, cockfighting, and attempts to kill witnesses [edf61338]. The arrests are the result of a long-term investigation into the La Nuestra Familia, a violent prison gang. Over 350 local, state, and federal officials worked together in an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. The investigation also involved Louisiana, Colorado, and Arkansas. 28 people are in custody, while several suspects are expected to be arraigned in federal court in Yakima and Spokane on April 19 [edf61338]. The arrests led to the seizure of 37 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine, 8,000 fentanyl-laced pills, $20,000 in cash, and roosters used in cockfighting [edf61338]. Yakima Police Chief Matthew Murray and Yakima County Sheriff Robert Udell praised the investigation and stated that it is only the beginning of ongoing efforts to stop and arrest criminal gangs in Yakima and throughout the United States [edf61338].
