In an interview, Wijewardene stated that there is a demand from the business community to postpone the Presidential polls, but President Wickremesinghe does not want to postpone the polls. Wijewardene believes that the President's program should continue for at least five years for national stability. He also mentioned that President Wickremesinghe will present himself as a common candidate, and many parties, including the Pohottuwa and a group from the SLFP, are hoping to support him. Wijewardene believes that by running as a common candidate, they will be able to form a National Government (NG) under Wickremesinghe's leadership. He emphasized that there is no Opposition candidate who can equal the President in solving the country's problems and that no one else can continue the work of building the country like President Wickremesinghe. Wijewardene also discussed the President's achievements in foreign relations, debt restructuring, and climate change.
