The CoE currently offers instruction to over 3,600 undergraduates, 900 graduate students, and 600 students in professional education programs. It offers 14 different engineering disciplines, including biomedical, computer, civil, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering. In 2023, over 1,000 students received degrees from the CoE, with 66% of graduates working in Connecticut. The College of Engineering employs 147 tenured and tenure-track faculty, including President Radenka Maric. The CoE has a rich history, starting with engineering courses being offered since the founding of the University in 1881. The School of Engineering was established in 1940 and has since grown to become one of the top-ranked institutions in the nation. The CoE has several notable alumni, including co-founder of Priceline.com T. Scott Case, NASA astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Franklin Chang-Diaz, and former CEO of GE Energy John Krenicki. The CoE has undergone significant growth and expansion, with the establishment of new departments and the construction of multiple buildings. The College aims to develop successful students, maintain research excellence, and contribute to the economic development of Connecticut. It focuses on areas such as manufacturing and materials, biomedical engineering, sustainability, data science and cybersecurity, and engineering education and innovation. The CoE plans to attract highly qualified students and achieve gender parity in incoming classes by 2026.
