The recent communal crisis between Ife and Modakeke in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has taken a new turn as a group called Modakeke Think Tank (MTT) refuted claims that the crisis was caused by anyone from Modakeke. According to MTT, the crisis was instigated by hooligans claiming to be from Ife. The Ife Intellectuals had accused Modakeke bandits of being behind the killings in Ife villages, but MTT urged them to look towards Ife for the miscreants.
MTT emphasized their commitment to peace and called for any misunderstandings between the two communities to be resolved without escalating into communal affairs. They highlighted an incident where a Modakeke couple was killed by Ife bandits, along with three Modakeke farmers who were shot, resulting in two immediate deaths and one death three days later. This incident further supports MTT's claim that the crisis was caused by hooligans from Ife, rather than Modakeke.
The peace efforts in the area continue, with the Modakeke Think Tank urging both communities to work together to restore peace and harmony. The group expressed their willingness to engage in dialogue and find lasting solutions to the issues plaguing the two communities. It is hoped that these efforts will lead to a resolution of the conflict and the prevention of further violence.
